LATEST NEWS - CODE JUMPER NAMED WINNER OF CES BEST OF INNOVATION AWARD 2020

We’re delighted to hear that Code Jumper has been awarded the prestigious Best of Innovation award at CES! We’re honoured to have had the opportunity to work with Microsoft Research on such an empowering and inspiring project.

EMPOWERING STUDENTS WITH INCLUSIVE CODING TOOLS

Microsoft Research approached 7TH to help with the industrial design and development of an incredible project named Torino, now launched to the world as the Code Jumper product, which aims to jump start computer science and programming interest for children who are blind.

Code Jumper is a set of physical tools comprising of plug-able units, each representing a particular coding function. These pods can be plugged into chains and loops and function variables can be adjusted using the dials on them to programme digital music with tones, pauses, loops and other programming capabilities.

FROM CONCEPT SKETCHES TO INJECTION MOULDED PRODUCTION

Throughout this project 7TH worked incredibly closely with Microsoft’s research team to create a final product that was manufacturable and suitable for use in schools and teaching environments.

Most importantly, these designs needed to provide an intuitive and usable physical representation of the programming language they represent and control. This was achieved by progressing the designs through a continuous series of iterative improvements from initial sketches and schematics, right through to final production ready CAD data and test prototypes.
